Join the team
Want to join Team Chaos?
We'd like to hear from you. The FAQs below should give you some basic detail about joining our crew.

Who can join?
If you can make the roster, you can join. Team Chaos is a community-based team so no affiliations are required (although we hope you have some kind of gym membership).
What kind of experience do I need?
Some experience in dragon boat or other paddle sports is preferred. However we’re also interested in people with athletic backgrounds who are physically active.
Are you looking for paddlers right now?
The first couple months of the year are generally the best time to try out, but we’re always open to hearing from experienced paddlers looking for a new team. If you’re a complete beginner you'll need try out during indoor pool training season (January to April).
What kind of time commitment are we talking about?
- Year-round: a commitment to personal fitness.
- January to April: once weekly gym/pool sessions, plus fitness work on your own time.
- May to September: twice weekly evening water practices, fitness work on your own time, and 5 or 6 weekend races.
What kind of costs are we talking about?
Team dues for a full season depend on the type and number of events we do, our practice and coaching arrangements, as well as the number of paddlers on the roster. A ballpark figure is about $500, plus your cost of travel and accommodation to out-of-town events.
What’s it like being on a dragon boat team?
It’s a big commitment and you’ll find it physically and mentally challenging, but also very rewarding. You’ll make a lot of friends as you train and socialize with your 25 teammates. The summer race season is a blur of road trips, thrilling competition and great camaraderie.
Okay… I’m interested; how do I sign up?
Please contact our captain, Jim Farrell and let him know you’re interested (please include a little information about your paddling history and personal fitness habits).
